Preschool

It all starts with a strong foundation

Preschool Academics

We pride ourselves on being more than just a “daycare”. Every moment is a teachable moment for these young students and with most of their brain development occurring before they even turn 5 this is maybe the most important grade to start with. We have developed an assessment tool that helps us find out where your children are at and then in turn teach them what they need to know for kindergarten. Many of the students who transition from our preschool to kindergarten are well prepared and familiar with what is taught. Teaching covered includes:

  • social skills
  • classroom behavior
  • knowledge of shapes, colors, numbers, letters
  • beginning reading
  • beginning writing
  • body awareness

Preschool Curriculum

Our teachers thoughtfully develop a lesson plan that focuses on a letter, shape, color, number, scripture and bible story for a week at a time to ensure the concepts are reinforced daily.  We use the Abeka curriculum as a base to map out the year but each teacher expands in such creative and fun ways.  Every year each class will take a walk through the Bible, touching on the key stories in age appropriate language as well as finding time to enjoy worship music.

Preschool Fun

Play is a huge part of a child’s development and confidence. This is done in centers, recess, and throughout each day but we like to take additional opportunities as well. Each month we have a preschool wide event filled with centers and fun that is a culmination of the unit they have studied. These always run smoothly because of the wonderful parents who volunteer.

Some of the special events are:

  • Apple Day
  • Thanksgiving Feast
  • Winter Day
  • Christmas Party
  • Harvest Hoedown
  • “P” party
  • Easter Celebration
  • Teddy Bear Parade
  • Luau

Specials & Enrichment Classes

Allowing students access to a range of classes helps their development and allows them to try something new.  We love to offer a wide range here on campus.

Preschool participates in:

  • PE
  • Music
  • Spanish
Boy writing with a marker in classroom setting
Girl drawing with crayons in classroom setting

Then the growth continues into

Elementary

Elementary Curriculum

Our primary curriculum for all grades is Abeka.  It lays a strong foundation for our students that they can build upon for years.  It is a traditional philosophy of education that allows for a spiral approach to learning. Students are learning to read through phonics, begin writing cursive from the start, and arithmetic is taught on the building blocks of math facts and concepts. We use DeepRoots Bible Curriculum for Defendable Faith.

Field Trips

Each teacher takes the time to enhance their students’ learning through taking field trips, bringing in special guest speakers, and special events in their classroom.

Some of the popular ones are:

  • Zoo and Pumpkin Patch
  • Postal History Museum
  • Sabino Canyon
  • Ostrich Ranch
  • Book Fairs
  • Pima Air and Space Museum
  • Titan Missile Museum
  • Catalina State Park
  • City Farm
  • Tubac

Student Recognition and Competitions

Students are recognized for Perfect Attendance, Principal’s List, Honor Roll and ‘Super Students’ for our K & 1st grades.  We enjoy allowing our students to challenge themselves through competition. Each year we participate in a Spelling Bee, Speech Meet, Math Olympics Science Fair and an Art Festival. This builds such confidence in our students and pushes them to work beyond just their assigned projects.

School Wide Events

For us, school isn’t just about taking tests and working hard. We feel that students need to have traditions and events to reward all that hard work. Each year we work hard to bring together events that bring families out to bond and celebrate the hard work of their students.

Throughout each school year we host the following events:

Fall Festival

Christmas Program

Rodeo Jamboree

Academy Showcase

Laps for Learning

Field Day

All-Praise Chapel

Grandparents Day

Science Fair/Art Festival
